Did McChrystal speak out to get out?

Coalition military fatalities by year in Afghanistan (Operation Enduring Freedom)

Of all the theories  about why McChrystal let his hair down in front of a reporter no less, the idea that he did it to get the hell out of "Chaos-istan" may be the most credible. On the other hand, McChrystal sounds like the kind of guy who wouldn't want to see his men (and women) put in harm's way, if he wasn't around to support them. But today's announcement that Petraeus supports a July 2011 withdrawal deadline means any perceived failure will ultimately end up pinned to Petraeus tail.

if you believe any enlisted man, particularly at McChrystal's rank, would ever willfully violate the UCMJ (Uniform Code of Military Justice) in pursuit of being booted out of a career which they've spent their entire life pursuing.

His career is now o-v-e-r. It's the height of stupidity to suggest he did this because he felt he couldn't win the war in Afghanistan. There are a lot of ways he could have left other than by destroying his reputation and career in the process.

This story is a disgrace.
